In a recent development, Google has entered into a partnership with the Assam government and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate digital growth and development in the state. Under this agreement, Google will collaborate with the Assam government’s Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department (SEED) to enhance the digitalization efforts in schools through online learning tools and solutions.
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, expressed gratitude towards Google for their commitment and support in advancing digital literacy across the region. The MoU aims to benefit the Assam community in the field of digital learning.
The collaboration will help in promoting technology-driven comprehensive development as envisioned by the Assam government. Google will also introduce the ‘Be Internet Awesome’ program in the state, which focuses on teaching school children about online safety and digital citizenship. This program was launched in 2019 in collaboration with Indian comic book publisher Amar Chitra Katha, and it teaches fundamental internet safety principles in eight Indian languages.
Furthermore, Google will partner with the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) to provide scholarships for Google Career Certificates to the youth of Assam. These certificates will enable learners to pursue careers in popular technological fields such as IT Support, IT Automation, Project Management, Data Analytics, and Digital Marketing E-commerce. Qualified applicants will have the opportunity to connect with employers who recognize these certificates through a hiring pool.
Overall, this collaboration aims to empower school children and the youth, equipping them with essential skills for a wide range of job and career opportunities. Sanjay Gupta, the Country Head & Vice President of Google India, stated that this MoU signifies the ongoing collaboration between Google and the Assam government in leveraging the benefits of digital tools and technology for the benefit of various communities.
